Lily Designs in Polymer Clay

Ever since I was a child I have enjoyed drawing and painting. I was able to pursue my passion, graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art, majoring in graphic design with a minor in weaving and textile design. In college I was also introduced to ceramics and pho- tography, two more loves in my life.

The demands of a family, career, and an old farm left no time to paint or work on ceram- ics, both of which need long unbroken blocks of time. Then over twenty-five years ago I discovered polymer clay, which could be worked on in short intervals and put down again until time became available again. Polymer clay is a very versatile medium with wonderful colors – for me, a marriage of paint and ceramics, a way of using color in three dimen- sions.

I am especially inspired by color, form and texture found in nature. In my work I try to reflect the beauty all around us and make a beautiful object in response, something which is pleasing to the eye and touch – a piece of art which brings pleasure.

There is simply no end to the techniques and possibilities of polymer clay. On display are items using surface techniques, layering and caning.

My work, Lily Designs, can be found in Studio 14 Galleries, 115 W. Main Street, Tipp City. For more information, or for class information, contact me at lnichols12@woh.rr.com or 937-667-2655.
